What Does the Bible Say About Faith?

Faith is man’s response to God’s revelation. Faith means trusting in God, being convinced that he exists and trusting in his salvation and care. To believe in God is to be like an infant lying safely in its mother’s arms, trusting God completely and depending on him. In Jesus Christ, God has revealed himself, and whoever believes in him has eternal life. Jesus Christ is the answer to humanity’s problems and with his death and resurrection every person who believes in Jesus receives forgiveness for his sins and eternal life.

Bible Verses

6And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.(Ge 15:6)

4“Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.(Hab 2:4)

11Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”(Ga 3:11)

17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.(Ro 10:17)

9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”(Ro 10:9–13)

16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.(Jn 3:16)

24Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.(Jn 5:24)

29Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(Jn 20:29)

1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.(Heb 11:1)

23And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”(Mk 9:23–24)
