Man is created in the image of God, but the likeness was damaged in the fall. With the Incarnation, God becoming man, man is now offered to become again what he was created to be. This is done by following Jesus and “imitating” him by reading God’s Word and being filled with God’s Spirit. By God’s grace, Jesus’ disciples are formed in the image of Jesus, and thus become God’s image once again.
“26Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Ge 1:26–27)
